Goodbye 2025: Celebrating the 'Invisible' Milestones of Toddlerhood

It is December 31st. The last sunset of 2025 over the Santa Cruz Mountains.
As we prepare to ring in the New Year, it is natural to look back. We scroll through our phones, looking at photos from January, amazed at how much our children have physically grown. The pants that are too short, the baby fat that is melting away.
But at Sunny Child Care, we see a different kind of growth. We see the "invisible" milestones. These aren't the ones you mark on a wall with a pencil, but they are the ones that shape who your child is becoming.
Here are three "Invisible Victories" I want you to celebrate tonight.
1. The Birth of Empathy
Remember that time in March when your toddler snatched a toy and hit their friend? Now, look at them in December. Maybe they brought you a tissue when you sneezed. Maybe they patted a crying baby on the back. That shift—from "Me" to "We"—is monumental. It is the foundation of kindness. If you saw even a glimmer of empathy this year, celebrate it.
2. The "I Can Do It" Spirit
In January, they might have waited for you to put on their shoes. Now, they might be insisting on zipping their own jacket (even if it takes 10 minutes and they miss the track). This struggle for independence can be frustrating for parents, but it is a huge victory for the child. It means they believe in their own capability. They are building the confidence to tackle the world.
3. The Explosion of "Why?"
I know, the endless questions can be exhausting. "Why is the sky blue?" "Why does the dog bark?" But think about what this means. Their brains are waking up to the complexity of the world. They are no longer just observing; they are analyzing. They are little scientists and philosophers. Cherish the "Why." It means their curiosity is alive and well.
A Toast to You, Parents
And finally, a milestone for you. You survived the tantrums. You navigated the sleepless nights. You balanced work and family in the busy Bay Area. You are a stronger, wiser, and more patient parent than you were 365 days ago.
Raise a glass (of champagne or sparkling cider) tonight. You did it.
Happy New Year from all of us at Sunny Child Care! We can't wait to see what 2026 brings.
