Egg-cellent Fun: 3 Easy Easter Crafts for San Jose Toddlers

Can you believe it? Easter is just around the corner (April 5th this year)! Walking into the Target on Brokaw, I was almost blinded by the pastel pinks and yellows in the seasonal aisle.
For toddlers, Easter isn't really about the history; it's about bunnies, eggs, and the joy of hunting for things. As Director Jessie, I love this holiday because the themes are so tactile.
Living in North San Jose, we are lucky to have great craft stores nearby. But honestly? You don't need to spend a fortune at Michaels. Here are 3 activities you can pull together with a quick $5 trip to the Dollar Tree at the Berryessa Plaza.
1. Tape-Resist Easter Eggs
Skill: Fine Motor & Color Recognition This is "foolproof art"—it looks good no matter how messy your toddler gets.
- Prep: Cut an oval shape out of white cardstock or cardboard. Use masking tape (or painter's tape) to make stripes or zig-zags on the egg.
- Action: Let your toddler paint over the entire egg with watercolors or washable paint.
- The Magic: Once dry, peel off the tape to reveal perfect white lines!
2. "Rescue the Eggs" (Water Play)
Skill: Life Skills & Hand-Eye Coordination If the weather in 95132 is warm enough, take this one to the patio!
- Setup: Fill a storage bin with soapy water and toss in a dozen plastic Easter eggs.
- Tools: Give your child a whisk, a soup ladle, and a slotted spoon.
- Mission: "The eggs are taking a bath! Can you scoop them out into the egg carton?"
Director Jessie's Tip: This activity buys me at least 20 minutes of peace. It's mesmerizing for them.
3. The "Feed the Bunny" Game
Skill: Gross Motor (Tossing)
- Make it: Take a cardboard box (an Amazon delivery box works great). Draw a bunny face with a HUGE open mouth. Cut the mouth out.
- Play it: Have your toddler stand back and try to toss plastic eggs (or bean bags) into the bunny's mouth.
- San Jose Twist: We use "baby carrots" as the tossing items sometimes for extra texture exploration!
Bilingual Holiday Words
Don't forget to practice some Mandarin while you craft!
- Rabbit: 兔子 (Tù zi) - "Look at the fluffy Tù zi!"
- Egg: 蛋 (Dàn) - "Where is the blue Dàn?"
- Jump: 跳 (Tiào) - "Bunnies go Tiào, Tiào, Tiào!"
